3 Steps for Cleaning Leather Furniture

Leather furniture is great. Not only does it look fantastic, it smells wonderful and it’s even easy to keep looking like it just rolled off the showroom floor. Of course, all of these only apply when you take good care of your furniture and keep up with the cleaning of it. If you have let your leather furniture go, now is the time to attempt to bring it back to its former glory. Check the care manual or tag before beginning to determine the safest cleaning method for your leather recliner. Take a look at a few simple cleaning instructions:

Step #1 Start with just soap and water. To tackle mild stains, dip a clean, damp washcloth in warm soapy water, and use it to wipe away the stain. For darker stains, like those from an ink pen or a wine spill, you can use a cotton swab dipped in rubbing alcohol. When performing this trick, be extra careful to apply it directly on the stain spot, so the alcohol doesn’t spread the stain onto more of the leather.

Step #2 Let it dry thoroughly. Carefully dry the leather with a separate clean and dry cloth to avoid any mildew. Then, let it sit overnight before you either tackle the stain again or actually use the furniture.

Step #3 Once the stains are gone, you can always re-moisturize the material by applying a leather cream with a clean cloth. Let it sink in, then buff to a shine. Your chair or couch will look brand new!

It’s quite possible that you don’t want to spend your day doing this, or your couch is now too far gone to simply wipe off. You may be forced to get rid of it and choose a new one. You don’t have to be stuck with something you don’t even like, though. If you live in the Swainsboro, GA area, you can come to Custom Furniture and Flooring.
