Believe it or not, it can be tough to choose between carpets. There are many different types of carpet styles to choose from, and it seems like each is more attractive than the last. Each choice is a great choice for some, but the ultimate decision depends on what your needs and budget are.

Plush

Plush carpet is soft to the touch. Its softness makes it perfect for a bedroom or living room. This is the carpet you can literally sink your toes into.  The negative side to having plush carpet is that it can be crushed easily, especially by heavy furniture. This type of carpet can be found in natural fibers, synthetic fibers or a combination or the two.

Berber

Berber carpet is made up of tightly woven yarn and is very durable. This type of carpet does not show footprints or vacuum lines, and is great for heavily trafficked areas.  This type of carpet is perfect for dens, family rooms, staircases, and bedrooms. It can be found in both natural and synthetic fibers, or a combination of both.  Steer clear of the cheap stuff though.  With cheaper berbers, you can end  up with a mess after a vacuuming.  When a vacuum cleaner grabs one strand of a cheap berber, the result is a permanent strip of missing carpet.  Talk to a seasoned carpet dealer, like Custom Flooring, to avoid a situation like this.

Frieze

Frieze carpet is made up of twisted yarn set according to a special heating process. The heating process makes this style of carpeting resilient and durable. The texture of the carpet makes it hard to see footprints and vacuum lines. This carpet style will work well in informal rooms. Made from polyester and nylon fibers, there are numerous colors and styles to choose from.

Saxony

Saxony carpet is made up of soft twisted yarn. It is not as textured as some of the other carpet styles but it can still hide footprints and vacuum lines. This carpeting style works well in bedrooms and family rooms. It is often made from nylon.

Olefin carpet is a glossy type of carpet. It resists moisture and stains well. This type of carpet can be used indoors and outdoors, and is frequently shown in both. The down side to this style of carpeting is that it crushes easily. It is made from synthetic fibers, so if you have a desire for natural fibers, you may want to choose a different type of carpet.
