How to Clean Your Floors After a Tailgate Party

When you throw a tailgate party, the fun and friends are seemingly endless.  You have three hours from kickoff to the final score, and plenty of time before and after to enjoy each other’s company.  There’s food, laughter, and, of course, a lot of footprints, tracks, drink stains, and crumbs.  In fact, it’s virtually impossible to throw a tailgate party that doesn’t come with some unintended consequences that linger long after the guests are supplies

Fortunately, you don’t have to put up with the mess for too long.  Here’s how you can get your floors clean after your epic event:

Even if your carpet doesn’t have physical scars, it still took a beating and tackled a lot during the game.  Begin by vacuuming so you can pick up all of those mushed-in morsels that may not be visible to the naked eye.  A great vacuum cleaner can go a long way, so if you don’t have a high-quality vacuum, and you’re planning a few more tailgate parties, this might be the time to consider investing in one.

Once you’ve gotten the dust and dander taken care of, shoot for some steam cleaning.  Steam cleaners are also a great investment, and if you want to own one, you can do so for anywhere between about $150 and $400.  Your local grocery store may also have them available to rent, which is a great option because those are often industrial-strength cleaners that can do a lot of damage to dirt.  Special cleaning agents can help with pet and wine stains, so check the options, and find one that suits your specific needs.

If you haven’t had a professional steam cleaning in a while, this might be the perfect time to schedule one.  Experts suggest you do so once or twice a year for normal wear and tear.

A vacuum that can go from carpet to hard flooring is ideal.  It will do a lot of the heavy lifting for you.  Otherwise, a good sweeping should do the trick.

Now you can employ the power of a tradition mop or of a product such as a Swiffer Wet Jet or Bissell Powerfresh to sanitize and scrub.  The key is using a cleaner that will disinfect and shine without damaging the surface.
