Your carpet is your soft little slice of heaven that you get the pleasure of walking on — but, keeping it spotless can be such a hassle at times. You can’t prevent accidents from happening but you can get your carpet to look like new with a little help. Here are some awesome tips to remove common carpet stains.

Juice/Wine Stains

Juices and wines are frequently spilled on carpet. Of course, the ones you spill always happen to be dark reds or purples too! To get these types of stains out of the carpet is fairly simple though. All you need to do is first blot the stained area with a dry towel instead of rubbing it with a damp one. (Rubbing it will cause the stain to smear and sink into the fibers of the carpet.) You can then use an all purpose cleaner to spray the area. Bissell Carpet Stain Treatment, Oxi-Clean for stained carpets, and Resolve Carpet Cleaner all get rave reviews, so if you have one of those on hand, those should be your go-to.

Blood Stains

When it comes to blood stains, the faster you act the better. First, be sure to use cold water to remove the stain instead of hot water, which will make the blood coagulate — ick! You can use Oxi-Clean to get this stain out. Keep in mind that because it is blood, it may take time and persistence to get the stain out.

Pet Stains

Pet stains are fairly easy to clean up. First, get a dry towel and blot the stain. You can then spray a pet stain remover onto the stain. The best to use are: Bissell 2x Pet Stain & Odor Portable Machine Formula, Resolve Carpet Triple Oxi Advanced Carpet Stain Remover, and OUT! Oxygen Activated Pet Stain & Odor Remover.  These are specially formulated for pet stains, so they’re great choices.

Ink Stains

Just like blood, ink stains can take a lot of time to remove. You will want to act as soon as the stain occurs, if possible. Get a damp washcloth and dip it in rubbing alcohol. Use this to treat the stain. Blot the washcloth on the stain, don’t rub. (Rubbing will cause the stain to spread.)

Dirt And Mud Stains

Dirt and mud stains might be the most common of them all. Luckily, they are relatively easy to remove. Surprisingly, one of the best ways to get rid of a dirt and mud stain is to let it dry completely before cleaning it up. Trying to remove it while it is still wet will cause the stain to spread and set into the carpet fibers. After the area is dry, vacuum the area and use a damp cloth to scrub. Repeat this process until the stain is removed.

Lipstick Stains

Lipstick stains are one of the worst stains to have. Removing them from the carpet as soon as possible is key. The first thing you need to do is get a damp washcloth and blot the stain soaking up as much of the stain as you can. (Be careful not to rub the stain into the carpet.)  Use an all purpose stain remover and/or rubbing alcohol to remove the stain. Some of the best cleaners to use for lipstick stains are: Bissell Carpet Stain Treatment, Resolve Carpet Cleaner, and Oxi-Clean.

It’s important to address stains as soon as they appear.  Use these tips to get those icky stains out so that you can fall in love with your carpet, all over again.
